"It is with great sadness that the NYPD US NAVY ASSOCATION informs the membership on the passing of Ret. Lt. John Gary on October 27, 2009. John was a 35 year member of the NYPD and entered WWII as a fifteen year old seaman, serving on Okinawa. His funeral took place at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Brooklyn, on October 31, 2009.  

The following members of the association attended as an Honor Guard: Ens. Peter Meehan, Chief Kevin Doyle,  MMI Bill West, Aviation First Class  Earl Sandel, PO3 Bill Burns,PO3 Charley Papio, and PO2 Freddie Crockett. There was NYPD pallbearers and two Bagpipers who performed at the service."
